Short Text

Results of the Contest

Short text is a popular literary form in contemporary literature, which requires reduction of the words, concentration of the meaning and the very expressive images. In such texts there is no plot or it is very limited. Possibly, this compression is because of acceleration of the pace and increasing of the volume of information in the modern life, when writer doesn't want to keep reader for long time. Possibly, this form was affected by modern music and advertising videos, as new-born cinema affected literature of XX century. In the short text attention is focused on a moment, small fact, person, but not on main historic period or event.

The contest of Short Text was announced for one of the main goal of the Festival — to introduce contemporary Russian literature to the Australian reader, to show current state of the literature in Russia, Australia and other countries. The texts could contain up to 400 words, as previously published, as new. 53 Russian-speaking authors sent their works to the contest. The selection of the winners was done independently by the Australian Russian media, Committee of the Festival and expert jury — Anatoly Kudryavitsky, an author, a poet, and a compiler of an anthology of short texts, and Igor Mytko, writer, editor, script writer, author of a book of miniatures «Roads and Fools».

On 27 of March Evening of short texts of the «Antipodes» Festival was held in Centre of Poetic books (PEN-centre, Moscow) - in Russian
